Swamiji stalled SP's transfer

Hyderabad: A week after several IPS officers were transferred, the top brass of the police are said to be busy making alterations to the list -- at the behest of Sri Ramaduta Swamiji near Chevur village in Prakasam district.

The high and mighty of the state, including police bosses, have been known to prostrate at the feet of this swamiji. Apart from the interference of the Transfer Baba, a woman minister too is said to be forcing the police to do a rethink on the posting of one officer.

Among the transfers effected last week, additional DCP (Task Force) Kolli Raghuram Reddy was posted as superintendent of police of Prakasam district, his first posting as an SP.

Top sources disclosed that the posting was not to the liking of the Sri Ramaduta Swamiji who promptly got on the phone and asked the top brass to do the needful.

Accordingly, the posting was kept in abeyance.'Raghuram Reddy has been orally instructed not to take charge of his new assignment,' sources said.

The IPS fraternity, much used to meddling by ministers and elected representitives, is surprised by the power wielded by the swamiji. Another transfer that has run into rough weather is the posting of K Lakshmi Reddy as SP of Mahabubnagar district.

A woman minister is said to be vehemently opposed to Lakshmi Reddy's posting to her fiefdom. The matter is now with home minister Sabita Indira Reddy, who has to take a final call.

It is only a week ago when the godman performed a yagam, several important people came calling. They included Goa chief minister Digambar Kamath, ministers Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, N Raghuveera Reddy, DGP V Dinesh Reddy, former IAS officer R M Gonela, Guntur district collector V N Vishnu, SPs of Prakasam and Nellore, Raju and B V Ramanakumar respectively and former TTD chairman D K Adikesavulu Naidu. They had assembled to witness the Subramanya Swamy Yagam conducted by Ramaduta Swamy.

Speaking at the event, Goa chief minister Kamath said that he came all the way from Panaji to seek the blessings of the swamiji as he believed him to be a real messenger of god.

Dinesh Reddy said that Ramaduta Swamy was a servant of the people and society and that his preachings were relevant for all communities and religions.

For those who came late, Ramaduta Swamy of Chevuru ashram of Gudlur mandal had been facing several charges with regard to encroachment of forest, railway and government lands in setting up the ashram.

Though, the local administration initiated steps to take the government lands encroached by Swamy, alleged pressures from the top reined them from going ahead with demolition of structures in the ashram.

According to locals, Ramaduta Swamy, a small-time god man, gained prominence after roping in some VIPs like union junior railway minister Muniappa, former DGP R R Girish Kumar and Adikesavula Naidu.

Meanwhile, district rationalist association general secretary Narne Venkata Subbaiah claimed he had documents procured through the RTI which showed that the entire ashram was located on government and tank lands.
