TRS MLAs scared of their security men Hyderabad: They were shadowing more than shielding, believe TRS legislators, and it was time to chuck them. Twelve of the TRS MLAs who found to their horror that their gunmen were indeed conveying to their masters the movement of the MLAs in the guise of protecting them.
A glaring example is that of K Taraka Rama Rao. On October 15 (first day of rail roko) he stayed in the house of his follower at Seetaphalmandi and planned for a rail roko at the Sitaphalmandi railway station. However, the security personnel specified his location to the police, who in turn, flung into action and arrested him and his followers.
It may be recalled that Shankar Rao, Minister for Hand looms and Textiles, too had surrendered his gunmen since he felt that he was being put under surveillance and his plans were leaked. KTR has since given up '(in) security.'
But ask police officials, they say it is a game played by the political leaders to gain sympathy of people. 'Once they cool down they will again call back their gunmen.'
Police Officers Association president Chalapati Rao said, 'Police department is the agency to maintain law and order. If the political leaders are passing remarks against the top brass of the police department (DGP), then think what they can say of the officers below his rank.
The values and reputation of the department which protects the Law is put at stake with such remarks. They might have surrendered their gunmen, but tomorrow if they go to any village then its the local police who will provide the security and perform the bandobust duties.'
'Where is the need of surrendering their gunmen? How many days will they be without security?' Rao questioned.
Karimnagar SP said, 'They have written letters to us stating that they don't want the security provided to them by the government. Since our men were sent back they have come back. Depending upon the situation we will take a decision to send them back.'
TRS leader Karne Prabhakar has said that people had elected their MLAs and they faced no threat and needed no security. He said the MLAs took the decision in protest against the comments of the Police Officers Association and the DGP.
