Settlers puncture KCR's ego Hyderabad: The Banswada assembly by-election result has indeed disappointed many die hard Telanganites for the kind of over expectations the TRS needlessly exaggerated over the margin of victory.
Although the victory margin of Pocharam Srinivas Reddy contesting on a TRS ticket has touched 49,500 votes from the previous 25,000 votes when he won in 2009 on TDP ticket the less known congress candidate securing his deposit and getting 30% of the total votes polled dampened many TRS supporters.
Some key elements that impacted the huge margin the TRS was hoping to get are' .one is that the TDP president Chandra Babu Naidu has tactfully avoided putting up a TDP candidate despite the fact that the settlers from Andhra are huge in numbers in Banswada.
The settlers are numbering around 25,000 voters in this constituency out of the total 160,000 voters. Something of a rarity in the entire Telangana region.
The strategy of Naidu was to enable the congress to put up a BC candidate so that the TDP voters can secretly cast their votes in his favour. The over confidence of the TRS added to Pocharam's arrogant attitude together added to the benefit of the congress candidate who was seen as a refreshing face even to many youth committed for Telangana.
The fact that congress candidate Srinivas Goud also being a strong supporter of Telangana has dented the TRS monopoly over the issue of T-state. The strategy of the TRS to rebuild itself rather working towards achieving Telangana State has weighed heavily on the T-state protagonists.
Now, the MLAs from TDP would think twice before crossing over to TRS. They would rather leave TDP and join some other party instead of the TRS.
On the other hand, the down to earth style of congress candidate and the absence of congress leaders has benefitted the congress candidate to get majority of votes in areas where Andhra settlers reside.
The settlers felt assured in voting for congress as the ruling party would ensure their safety if any untoward incident happens. It's once again a lesson for arrogant politicians not to take people for granted.
But for Sakala Janula Samme, the outcome would have been much more disappointing to TRS activists. Again credit goes to Telangana employees.
