DS may join Kiran's cabinet Hyderabad: Former APCC president D Srinivas who was sworn in as a member of the State Legislative Council on Thursday, has a chance of his being inducted into the State Cabinet soon.
Along with Srinivas, some erstwhile Praja Rajyam MLAs might also get berths in the Kiran Kumar Reddy cabinet whenever it is expanded.
Before the Praja Rajyam Party was merged into the Congress party, its president Chiranjivi was promised that two to three MLAs from the party will be inducted into the cabinet.
There are also vacancies in the cabinet with the resignation of Telangana ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Jupalli Krishna Rao.
Srinivas may be given a more important and powerful portfolio like Home, Higher Education or Agriculture. He is the seniormost leader in the party who had served as PCC chief for three terms and also as cabinet minister earlier.
Srinivas, who hails from Telangana, also has a special knack and diplomacy to convince the MLAs who are his followers and by and large is non-controversial and is acceptable to Telangana leaders.
There are a few ministers who handle more than one portfolio, particularly those from Telangana like Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha who handles Higher Education and Agriculture.
He was given the additional charge of Agriculture when Y S Vivekananda Reddy quit the cabinet to contest from Pulivendula against Y S Vijayalakshmi.
Information Technology Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah has the additional charge of Endowments which was with Jupally Krishna Rao who resigned from the cabinet demanding separate Telangana.
Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy handles Infrastructure and Investments handled by Komatireddy Venkat Reddy who also quit during the Telangana stir.
Besides, the Chief Minister also handles Power, Commercial Taxes, Law & Order and General Administration. Srinivas, if inducted into the cabinet, will be a force to reckon with as far as the Telangana issue is concerned. He is also considered to be a potential CM stuff.
Besides the State Cabinet expansion, the appointments of chairmen to various state government corporations are long overdue and the High Command seems to have given the go ahead to the Chief Minister.
