More T MLA's ready to cross Hyderabad: At least nine more MLAs and three MPs from the ruling Congress are reportedly veering around the thought of taking "harsh decisions" if the Centre delays its decision on Telangana further.
Some of the MPs are already in Delhi to take part in the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and will be making a 'last ditch attempt' to convince the high command to see reason in their demand.
However, they have to wait for at least four days as the Union Minister and in-charge of AP affairs, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, is said to be out of the country. 'If their efforts fail to bring any favourable result, they will be forced to take a decision after their return to the city,' party sources said.
Though more than two dozen MLAs left the party to join the YSR Congress, the State Congress was unmoved as it received support from 17 legislators of the Praja Rajyam Party, which was merged with the Congress more than two months ago.
The merger has ensured that there will be no threat to the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government at that time and even the departure of three MLAs on Sunday also will not result in any Constitutional crisis as the Chief Minister has enough numbers on his side even today.
However, the party leaders are apprehensive that their worst fears may come true if the Centre does not take a decision quickly.'The impact on the party may be minimal as many leaders have quit in the past and again returned after some years.
But with three MLAs from a national party joining a sub regional party will be a sort of embarrassment to the Chief Minister and AP Congress Committee President Botcha Satyanarayana, as they have left at a critical juncture,' sources said.
The development is also likely to put pressure on other Congress leaders including MPs, MLAs and ministers to quit their posts and join the movement.
'We have alerted the Congress high command on several occasions that such a situation would come if no decision was taken at the earliest,' said party MLC and one of the leaders of the Steering Committee of Telangana Congress K Yadava Reddy.
He said that people had voted for these MLAs in the hope of realising their decades old dream of a separate state. 'With that not coming, the pressure was already building up on the elected representatives and the resignations of the three MLAs, who had no other choice, are a direct fall-out of this,' he said.
He also said that the MLAs might also be looking to the future as they have to get re-elected in the next elections. 'If they do not go with the people, their chances of retaining their seats in the Assembly will be bleak. This is only a symptom and unless the malady is cured, it will affect the whole organisation,' he added.
