Rachabanda: Testing time for CM
Hyderabad, N0v 2 (INN): It will be an acid test N Kiran Kumar Reddy government to carry out the Rachabanda and other welfare schemes across the state, however populist they may be, but the State has a moral point to prove should there be few or no takers in any region.
After the state formation day passed off without any major incident though both regions vented their feelings and the government went by its own way, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy begins the mass contact programme in the name of Rachabanda Phase II from today.
Rachabanda II, along with Indira Jala Prabha and Rythu Mahila Sadassulu would benefit 55 lakh people in Telangna region. The three programmes would be clubbed to together as the other two were affected due to Sakal Janula Samme in the region.
Rachabanda, to be held in all districts from Nov 2 to Nov 30, ensures that the welfare benefits reaches to the downtrodden and appealed to the people not to obstruct the programmes.
In Telangana region it was empty galleries all over during the Formation Day celebrations and there were protests in all the districts while Samaikyandhra voices were also vented in parts of Andhra even as chief minister launched the most populist Rs 1kg rice scheme.
After the employee's movement lost steam and political process went awry, chief minister is going on a mass contact programme and is doling out populist measures.
Under Rachabanda II, Telangana region will be getting 7.15 lakh white ration cards besides 1.66 lakh social security pensions. Total number of houses to be allotted during the programme will be over 2.56 lakh. The other two schemes have a good number of beneficiaries from the region.
Now it remains to be seen if the winter session of the assembly will be convened or the government takes refuge in some intricate legislative clause or provision, or if the Delhi durbar will give some assurance is something that remains to be seen.
If welfare measures and programmes are stalled there would be a negative ranking for the protagonists of Telangana and if they allow it, the government will be having a higher hand.
