TRS eyes Mahbubnagar by-polls Mahbubnagar: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders are planning to win the Assembly seats in Mahbubnagar in the coming by-polls.
With the death of MLA Rajeswar Reddy, the Mahbubnagar Assembly seat became vacant and with the acceptance of the resignation of Telangana Nagara Samithi president Nagam Janardhan Reddy, the Nagarkurnool seat became vacant.
The late Rajeswara Reddy, after he was elected as an Independent, continued as associate member of Congress whereas Nagam was the convener for TDP Telangana Forum. Kollapur MLA Jupalli Krishna Rao, recently left Congress and joined TRS. His resignation to the MLA post is pending with the Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar.
If the by-polls are held to all the three constituencies, the TRS is making moves to win all three of them. TRS is planning to give a ticket to Mrs Vijayalakshmi, wife of Rajeswar Reddy. The party has already started preliminary discussions with Mr Ramakrishna Reddy, the brother-in-law of Rajeswar Reddy, in this regard.
It is an open secret that the late Rajeswar Reddy, though he contested as an Independent, supported TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao during the elections for Mahbubnagar Parliament constituency. It may not be a difficult task to convince Mrs Vijayalakshmi to join TRS, political circles feel.
KCR had already announced that TRS would support any candidate who would resign his post for the Telangana cause. Since Nagam Janardhan Reddy had submitted his resignation for a separate Telangana, the TRS may support his candidature in the coming by-polls.
Senior leaders of TRS also tried to convince Nagam to join their party to contest the by-polls. Even if Nagam declines to join TRS, it may support his candidature and may not field its candidate at the Nagarkurnool by-poll.
In any case, the TRS will likely increase its strength in the Assembly by two, if not three, in the coming by-polls in Mahbubnagar, the district leaders feel. In all likelihood, Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar may accept the resignation of Jupalli Krishna Rao shortly, say political analysts.
