Krishna Deva Raya's kin feel proud of the land he loved Vijayawada: Rajamatha Chandrakantha Devi, an 18th generation family member of Vijayanagara emperor Sri Krishna Deva Raya, is all proud of the late King and his popularity in southern States.
Though Sri Krishna Deva Raya ruled Vijayanagar empire just for 20 years between 1509 and 1529, he had left an unforgettable impression among the people of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
'Wherever I go, I can find people feeling proud of the King. The name makes them feel so familiar and they have taken him to their heart,' Chandrakantha Devi, said while speaking to this correspondent here on Friday, during her brief visit to the city.
She said that his name is familiar among every section of people. 'That is the greatness a few special persons command even after several generations of their death,' she pointed out. As a member of the royal family, she feels honoured when people look at her and her family members with great respect and worship.
Born into yet another royal family of Samrat Vikramaditya of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, Chandrakantah Devi ws married to Raja Achut Deva Raya. She was the second generation daughter from the Ujjain empire to be married to the successors of Sri Krishna Deva Raya of Vijayanagara empire.
Her son, Prince Sri Krishna Deva Raya, is now a businessman in Hospet, Karnataka. He is also now busy renovating their 250-year old house at Anegondi village of Koppal district. Achut Deva Raya belongs to the family of Mohinamba, the eldest daughter of Sri Krishna Deva Raya.
Though now settled finally in Hospet, with some of the family members living in Anegondi village and Gangavathi, the family has special love for Andhra and the people of the State. 'Sri Krishna Deva Raya had toured Andhra Pradesh, loved Telugu literature, loved Telugu people.
