Kiran, Botsa rift widens Hyderabad: Not all the Congress leaders are happy that MLAs who were with YS Jaganmohan Reddy are coming back. PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana himself looks miffed and utterly unhappy that developments in his party are taking place without his knowledge.
Botsa who compares himself with Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has been criticising the latter till the other day for not doing anything to bring Jagan MLAs back to the Congress fold. But when the MLAs actually started to come back, the PCC chief unleashed a negative campaign against them.
This has given a new twist to the already strained relationship between the chief minister and the party chief If the PCC chief's statement on Saturday makes it clear that he is not too happy with the manner in which chief minister was taking unilateral decisions.
While the chief minister has been successful to some extent in bringing round the Jagan groupies, the PCC president told media persons that those who had gone with Jagan cannot escape disciplinary action if they return to the party fold.
They had not only aligned with another party but also had sent their letters of resignation from party membership. They will have to explain the reasons for their actions, he said.
The PCC president also expressed his unhappiness over the manner in which the MLAs were not visiting the party office. It is not sufficient to go to their respective district collectorates. They should be regularly visiting PCC office, he said.
According to party seniors, the PCC president was unhappy that the CM has been directly talking to the MLAs who had aligned with Jagan. The PCC president is angry that the chief minister was not consulting him in such matters.
The Party insiders feel that the threat of action against those who returned to the party fold would hamper the efforts of the chief minister to win back all those who were contemplating to return.
On the other hand, Adinarayarayana Reddy, MLA, after meeting the chief minister on Saturday said that he continues to be in Jagan camp but will support Congress party if the TDP brings about no-confidence motion.
The Speaker had not accepted the resignations of any of the MLAs who had gone with YSR Congress party. 'Moreover, we cannot afford to ignore the developmental activities of our constituencies and hence will support Congress party,' he said, adding that Jagan was a straight forward person and did not know the art of lobbying.
Politically, he needs to adapt to the changing situation and make necessary corrections in his roadmap, he added. Adinarayana Reddy said the MLAs did not visit the party office even during the YS Rajasekhara Reddy's tenure as chief minister.
'If the PCC president wants to accept our resignations to the Party, he is free to do so. Let him do it', challenged the MLA who is considered very close to Jaganmohan Reddy.
Botsa, who had fancied himself as the most important leader in the party, failed miserably to revive the party after becoming the PCC chief, complain the old timers at Gandhi Bhavan.
He took charge as PCC president on June 11 and Congress MLAs in Telangana tendered their resignations on July 4. Gulam Nabi Azad who was in Hyderabad wanted to talk to the MLAs. Botsa told Azad that who would persuade them to take back their resignations. No MLA from Telangana heeded to the PCC president.
Botcha could retain his ministerial berth, but he is neither here nor there. He was not able to function effectively as a minister or the party chief. He became PCC chief because of some strange calculations made by the high command.
He thought it was because of his leadership qualities that he was chosen to lead the party in the state and he tried to pose himself as an alternative to Kiran Kumar Reddy.
He befriended Chiranjeevi and even met chief minister b'te noire in Chittoor district P Ramachandra Reddy. Sensing Botsa's motives, Kiran started distancing himself from the former Botsa's critics say he could not reorganise the PCC executive and he has been trying to dominate the PCC by not allowing any official spokesman to address the media.
The members of the old executive have been complaining that the Party chief uses foul language and is not giving them respect. Botcha was confined to Seemandhra areas. He did not tour Telangana districts except Medak where he had to go to participate in a function organised by RTC.
The main problem for Botsa, his colleagues in the Party say, is that he cannot speak either English or Hindi and because of this handicap he was not able to communicate effectively with the party leaders in Delhi whereas the chief minister has been talking to Ahmad Patel, Azad and others on daily basis.
While Botsa has been giving vent to his anger and frustration in public and private conversations, Kiran Kumar Reddy has been going about his job coolly without saying anything against anyone, leave alone the PCC chief.
Failure and helplessness are making the PCC president to become more and more suspicious of the chief minister and thus the gulf between two most important Congress leaders in the state has been growing by the day.
