Triblas built temple for Lava and Kusha Rajahmundry: Lava and Kusha, sons of Lord Rama, are well known to the people, as they waged a battle against their father Lord Rama since they were not aware of his identity. They were brought up by sage Valmiki at his ashram, along with their mother Sita.
Temples of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita can be found in every nook and corner of the country, but there are no temples for Lava and Kusha.
Interestingly, tribals in a rural hamlet constructed a temple for the twins seven decades ago. Later, the temple was renovated and Lava and Kusha are being offered pujas. The temple is situated amidst hillocks at E Gokavaram village of Prathipadu mandal in East Godavari district.
The tribals renamed Lava and Kusha as Konda Rajula Bavulu. They said that their ancestors used that name as the duo had wandered through hills and forests to trace their father Lord Rama.
The plaque quotes that one Jonnalagadda Purushotham and his wife from Tadepalligudem had donated the idols of Lava and Kusha. One Rajesh, a resident of the village, says that they used to conduct celebrations every year, but since five years, they shunned it due to financial crunch.
The villagers offer pujas at this temple before beginning any auspicious event in their houses. They also sacrifice hens and sheep to fulfil their vows.
And every Saturday, the villagers perform pujas by breaking coconuts and offering bananas. On Shivratri, people from neighbouring villages also throng the temple to offer prayers to the deities.
After reaping the crop, the villagers keep the produce at the feet of the idols in the temple. They take back the produce to their house after offering some of it to the deities.
Interestingly, the release of the movie Sri Rama Rajyam directed by Bapu, starring Balakrisha as Lord Rama and Nayanatara as Goddess Sita, made a difference among the GenNext.
Those who are not aware about Lava and Kusha are thronging the temple. The villagers said the flow of devotees to the temple was on the rise after the release of the film.
