IAS officers in the dock Hyderabad, Dec 2 (INN): Senior IAS officer Y Sri Lakshmi is not the lone IAS officer to be suspended from services after being named as accused in a scandal, there are others from the same fraternity who were shunted out, though some of them have appealed against their suspension.
Srilakshmi's case was a shade different from others as her name has figured in the Obulapuram mining case and she was named as accused by the CBI. After her questioning and imminent arrest, the Chief Secretary had no other go but to suspend her.
In other cases, the suspension was initiated by the State Government for reasons other than the CBI intervention. Any government official, facing arrest and being tried by a court has to be suspended from the service as per the statute.
The Chattisgarh government has recently suspended a senior IAS officer T Radhakrishna who was in the rank of additional chief secretary for allowing the sale of tribal land to non-tribals.
The Uttar Pradesh government has some time back suspended a senior IAS officer, Promilla Shankar on the grounds that she traveled abroad without seeking government permission.
The suspended officer claimed that she was being victimised for expressing her views on the government's massive urbanisatrion plan along the Yamuna Expressway which is in violation of the existing laws.
She registered her protest and complained against the state government by writing to the Central Government's Department of Personnel and Training with copies to the union cabinet secretary and principal secretary to the prime minister'the procedure that an suspended IAS officer has to follow in case.
Before this, Ravi Inder Singh who was charged with corporate espionage for sexual and monetary favours was suspended and the court recently granted him bail.
Shiv Shakar Verma, senior IAS officer form Bihar was suspended on the grounds of holding assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The Centre has given its nod to go ahead with its prosecution.
