By-polls- a test for all parties Hyderabad, Dec 11 (INN): Party hopping may not go well with sensible voters put opportunism has always been the staple fodder in political class.
Who will cut into whose vote bank and to what extent is the million dollar question. TDP has been the victim of a third force in the previous election-- at least that has been the final analysis of the party after the 2009 election.
The ensuing by-elections will see the strength of YSR Congress and into whose vote bank will it cut into. Rayalaseema region is known for loyalties to families and individuals and parties do not count here.
The faction feuds may take advantage of the existing political parties but in reality it is the faction, group or in some places caste that works.
Sobha Nagi Reddy's family-- her husband and father --have a political background and contested the Allagadda, Pathikonda assembly and Nandyal parliament seats.
They were associated with TDP only to oppose the Gangula family which was with Congress for a long time. Now since Shobha jumped to PRP and from there hopped to YSR Congress, and will have to face Congress and TDP, it remains to be seen if party hopping will be fetching to the Bhuma family.
Elsewhere the situation is no different. Party hopping blended with opportunism is waiting for its true impact to be unveiled on the canvas of parliamentary democracy.
By-poll to 24 assembly elections looks imminent as Congress High Command, after taking more than the required time, has given the nod to axe the rebels. Kiran Kumar Reddy government will be safe, irrespective of the results.
But both Congress and YSR Congress have a point to prove. It is for the YSRC leader Jagan Mohan Reddy to ensure the victory of those who defected to his party at the same time, Congress will be taking the issue seriously and launch a propaganda against those who ditched the party that has given them chance to serve the people for five years and forcing a by-election.
YSRC will be harping on the developmental activities taken up by YSR and will up its ante saying that many of them were dumped. A sympathy wave may be sweeping in favour of Jagan Mohan on the pretext that he was not given the right place which he deserves, keeping in view the services of his father to the state, but to what extent that factor works remains to be seen.
Congress on one hand cannot deny the good work done by YSR at the same time has to criticize YSRC for engineering defections. The corruption charges and CBI cases can be played up at local level and getting a good candidate will be a problem for the ruling party. YSRC has to field the persons who defected and TDP has the candidates who lost in the previous elections.
TDP is also on a sticky wicket. The leader is in the same boat with YSRC as far as the CBI issue is concerned and sail with Congress as far as the defections are concerned.
The only moral point the party has is the padayatra taken up the Chandrababu Naidu and the credit of moving no confidence motion and exposing the chinks in ruling party.
In Telangana region the issue is very complicated. No party has the moral superiority to reach the people with the statehood issue still remaining unresolved.
Even TRS lost some of its ground after the Sakala Janula Samme. It remains to be seen what will be the outcome of by-polls in Mahboobnagar as TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao represents the constituency.
