Kiran's troubled cabinet

Hyderabad, Dec 25 (INN): Textiles Minister Dr Shankar Rao has spun a charge sheet dotted with corruption motifs against the Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy and the spar between two ministers of the Kiran Kumar Reddy cabinet has come into the wide open and reached a flash point with Rao demanding the ouster of the other.

There were difference of opinion in the cabinet in all governments, but this one has gone beyond all reasonable comprehension and the dalit factor has added a new dimension to the tussle.

The fight in the open may not be to the liking of Congress bosses, but certain incidents were indecent and the attack on the minister triggered the battle cry.

He alleged that it was Sabita's followers who had attacked him and wanted the Home Minister to be dropped from the cabinet and a SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) case booked against her.

A few people responsible for the attack were arrested. The Textiles Minister refuses to accept this and firmly believes that the Home Minister is the mastermind and she should be booked immediately.

The battle is a long drawn one and the two ministers who hail from the same district have been at loggerheads for some time now.

With Sabita trying to project her son as the future leader and Shankar Rao, who is very loyal to Gandhi family and a dalit leader from Telangana region has been breathing fire against her since long for reasons better known to the duo.

Time and again Shankar Rao saying that he is always loyal to Gandhi family while taking a dig at Sabita, whose husband Indra Reddy sailed with TDP for a long time and after his tragic death, Sabita's decision oscillated between TDP and Congress and finally YSR got her in.

Chevella, the constituency she then represented, became the lucky launching pad for many of YSR programmes. It is time for the party leadership to sort things out and the proposed cabinet reshuffle in January may provide some relief to both the parties.

Congress did had people like M Satyanrayana Rao, Bhattam Sriram Murthy and the like who never fear to express themselves and media could easily get some provocative remarks and an issue used to flare for some days.

This time, Dr P Shankar Rao seems to have things very personal and he even explored legal avenues. He must have been hurt badly and there seems to be no senior leader in the party to give a patient hearing and broker peace.

Lack of strong leadership and a clear demarcation of groups among regional and caste lines has been the most unfortunate phase though which the state is passing.
