Anam averse to contest Nellore LS seat Hyderabad: The decision of the Lok Sabha speaker to accept the resignation of Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohana Reddy has now put the Congress party in a piquant situation.
According to senior party leaders like Dr D L Ravindra Reddy, the Anam brothers are not willing to take up the responsibility to see that the party wins the seat in the by-elections.
In an informal chat with media in the lobbies of the State Assembly, Dr Reddy said that the party cannot have two different standards.
While the Kadapa by-elections were being held, despite being a minister, he was asked to contest and also shoulder the responsibility of campaign.
In case of Nellore Lok Sabha, the party should ask Anam Ramanarayana Reddy to jump into the fray, he said.
Interestingly, the names of T Subbirami Reddy and former chief minister N Janardhan Reddy (NJR) are also making rounds, the minister said.
Anam brothers favoured NJR to contest from this seat. They also said that if NJR agrees to contest they will actively participate in the campaign.
Ravindra Reddy insisted that instead of asking the octogenarian leader to contest the by election, Ramanarayana Reddy himself should offer to take on the YSR Congress leader.
Another Congress leader said that the names of Adala Prabhakar Reddy and N Rajyalakshmi wife of NJR is also being mentioned in the political circles as probable candidates.
Meanwhile, all those who are unhappy with the style of functioning of the Chief Minister are now gathering courage to openly comment that it would have been better if Y S Jaganmohan Reddy had become the chief minister.
That could have avoided the problems of facing by-elections or defections by some MLAs.
They allege that after Kiran Kumar Reddy became the chief minister party had been sliding down in popularity. Even the unity of the party had taken a beating.
Apart from the present 7 by-elections the party will have to face another 17 by-elections to the Assembly and one by-poll to Lok Sabha.
They feel that the party has an uphill task to get out of the difficult times and brace up for the 2014 elections if the chief minister does not change his style of functioning. However, for the present, no one wants to come out in the open on this issue.
