Mother of all by-polls set in May Hyderabad: All political parties including the Congress and the TDP have already started focussing attention on the 17 by-polls, touted to be mother of all by-polls, that would be held sometime during May and are working out strategies, alliances and are also in the process of finalising the candidates.
While the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy feels that the cycle (TDP symbol) has become rusted and it would not be difficult for the Congress to win good number of seats, the party leaders feel that there was urgent need for the party to review the results of the five States and take corrective measures if it were to win any future election.
The TDP on the other hand feels that it should take these elections as a prestige issue and has already started getting survey reports from these constituencies and is in the process of identifying the candidates.
The CPI also discussed this issue at its state executive meeting held today. The party is contemplating to contest from Parkal constituency in Warangal district.
They are yet to identify the candidate. Though the TRS will also contest from this seat, the CPI will not have any understanding and is yet to make up its mind on whether to join hands with TDP or YSR Congress Party.
According to information available from districts, in Parkal of Warangal district the YSR Congress will field Konda Surekha who had resigned from this constituency after she joined YSRCP.
The TDP front-runner is Challa Dharma Reddy while the Congress is considering the name of Gandra Jyothi, wife of chief whip Gandra Venkataramana Reddy. The other major contender TRS is likely to put up Peddi Sudershan Reddy.
The Guntur two seats fell vacant following disqualification of Prattipadu MLA M Sucharita and Macherla MLA P Ramakrishna Reddy. The TDP has taken the lead here by deciding on Kandukuri Veeraiah who had lost the election in 2009.
The Congress party got some survey done by the intelligence wing, party sources claim. The probable candidate from here is TJR Sudhakar Babu.
The YSRCP is favouring a woman candidtate. This has put the Congress party in a dilemma. It is now considering the name of former ZP chairperson Kuchipudi Vijaya.
From Macherla, YSRCP probable is Pinnela Ramakrishna Reddy. While the Congress may put up Pinnela Lakshma Reddy, TDP wants to give the seat to a BC candidate Edukondalu or Madhu Yadav.
From Allagadda in Kurnool, Shobha Nagi Reddy will be the YSRCP candidate, Erigalla Rampulla Reddy will be the TDP candidate and Gangula Prathap Reddy will be the Congress candidate.
Similarly in Yemmiganur, Errakota Chenna Kesava Reddy YSRCP, B V Mohan Reddy TDP, and Rudra Goud, B C Srinivasulu from Congress are in the race.
In Kadapa, Mekapati Amarnath Reddy from YSR Congress, Madan Mohan Reddy and Brahmaiah are from TDP and Meda Mallkarjun Reddy from Congress are the front runners.
For Narsannapeta in Srikakulam district, the contenders are Boggu Lakshminarayan Rao from TDP appears to be a sure candidate. The minister Dharmana Prasada Rao has a tough choice to make here on whom to support since his elder brother Dharmana Krishna Das who was disqualified will be the YSRCP candidate while the ministers younger brother D Ramadasu will be the Congress candidate.
For Payakraopeta in Visakhapatnam district, former MLA Chengala Venkata Rao is the TDP choice. The Congress contender will be former MLA G Sumana.
The YSRCP has decided to field Gurunadh Reddy and Kapu Ramachandra Reddy from Anantapur urban and Rayadurgam constituencies. They were disqualified recently by the Speaker.
The list of Congress contenders is large for Anantapur that includes Chava Rajasekhara Reddy, Rashid Ahmed, Ananta Venkatrama Reddy and his brother A Chandra Reddy.
From Rayadurgam, Deepak Reddy, TDP and from Congress DCC president Patil Venugopal Reddy are the front runners. Ramachandrapuram constituency in East Godavari district will witness a triangular fight.
Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose who was disqualified will be the YSRCP candidate. Thota Trimurthulu from Congress and Chikkala Ramachandra Reddy from TDP are in the race.
In West Godavari district, the candidates for Polavaram ST reserved seat are Poonam Singam Dora(TDP), Boragam Sreenu, M Sreenu and Karam Jagadamba Congress. From Narsapuram Congress candidate Kothapalli Subbarayudu and TDP Bommidi Narayana Rao.
