TRS may field KK, if Cong dumps him HYDERABAD: The TRS despite not having adequate strength to win a seat, plans to contest the coming Rajya Sabha elections just to embarrass the Congress.
The party will plunge into the fray in case the Congress leadership is not inclined to field a leader from Telangana. The party is also pursuing the matter seriously with several Telangana Congress leaders.
Six Rajya Sabha seats are falling vacant on April 2 with the retirement of four Congress, one TDP and one CPI members. Going by the present strength of the parties in the Assembly, the Congress can win four seats on its own and the TDP two.
Senior Telanagan Congress leader K Keshava Rao and PRP-turned-Congress leader K Chiranjeevi are seriously trying for the party ticket.
Incidentally, both belong the same community - Kapu. AICC spokesperson Renuka Chowdary is seeking ticket from Telangana quota. Several industrialists are aspiring to Congress ticket.
Telangana ministers including K Jana Reddy, MPs and MLAs are pressing the party for renomination of Keshava Rao.
On the other hand, Andhra and Rayalaseema leaders of the party are of the opinion that the high command will deny Keshava Rao the ticket since it had already promised to accommodate Chiranjeevi in the Rajya Sabha.
In case the Congress dumps Keshava Rao, the TRS wants to propose his candidacy on the Telangana plank. Its leaders are discussing the strategy to be adopted to make Rao win.
