Will Nagam break the Nagarkurnool jinx? Nagarkurnool: Until a few years ago, there was a strong belief (or superstition) among the people of the Nagarkurnool Assembly constituency that those political leaders who had conducted public meetings in the town were either dethroned or they lost their posts.
Former chief ministers Tanguturi Anjaiah, Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy, former prime ministers Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and former TD supremo N T Rama Rao addressed the public meetings at Nagarkurnool and soon lost their posts due to unexpected election results and inexplicable reasons.
This 'inauspicious' sentiment (jinx) has been prevailing among the local people. In later periods, political leaders avoided addressing or even conducting public meetings at Nagarkurnool.
Even Nagam Janardhan Reddy, on earlier occasions, used to perform pooja at Umamaheswara temple before commencing any programme in the constituency.
However, Nagam organised a massive public meeting after launching Telangana Nagaara Samithi. The organisation could not become popular due to its non-political nature. Nagam is contesting as an independent candidate in the by-poll.
But after conducting the massive public meeting, he is facing the electorate here. It is to be seen whether he would come through with flying colours or not.
