Who fills the 'Mega' vacuum in Tirupati? Hyderabad: As the by-elections are inevitable in Tirupati assembly constituency after its MLA K Chiranjeevi was elevated as Rajya Sabha MP, Congress seems to be in 'political cauldron' as it has to face by-election in 18 assembly constituencies including 17, which fell vacant after the Congress MLAs joined YSR Congress party.
While the YSR Congress party and the opposition TDP, were giving tough fight, the Congress was also facing internal squabbles on the allocation of seats in majority of constituencies.
Former MLA Venkata Ramana and State Geology and Mining minister G Aruna Kumari's son, Galla Jayadev were already lobbying strongly to get party ticket fight election in Tirupati constituency.
Since, the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy hailed from district Chittoor, he took the election a prestigious issue and started searching for a suitable candidate.
Several local Congress leaders were seen at the CM camp offices urging to allot the ticket to them. Chiranjeevi, who already announced that his family members will not be in the fray in Tirupati by-election, gave a fillip to the CM to select his own candidate.
In the case of by- election in 17 assembly constituencies, the Congress leaders are not confident that it will win at least five seats in the by-poll.
Majority of party leaders opined that YSR Congress was emerging as a strong party in place of Congress in Seemandhra region.
The fight will be between YSR Congress and TDP in the election, a senior Congress leader said. Meanwhile, nominee for Rajya Sabha MP post Renuka Chaudhary told newsmen at CLP office that the national party was losing its sheen after the unexpected political developments taken place in the State.
While Chiranjeevi said that though he relinquished his MLA post, he will continue to serve the people of Tirupati in future and he would also strive for the victory of Congress in the by-elections.
