No takers for Naidu's 'two-eyed theory' in T Hyderabad: Drubbing in the by-election to six Assembly constituencies in Telangana sent a strong signal to the main Opposition TDP that time has come to take a 'clear stand' on the contentious Telangana issue.
While reviewing the party's dismal performance in the just concluded by-election, the TDP leaders including party president N Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana TDP Forum leaders asserted the need to correct party's policy on Telangana.
As the 'two-eyed theory' adopted by Chandrababu Naidu and recent tirade against TRS by TDP T Forum had not gone well, the leaders were of the opinion that the only option before the party to regain its lost strong network and people's confidence was to give up the 'confused' policy adopted on Telangana immediately.
Then embark on new strategy which would send a signal that TDP was very much in favour of Telangana and would fight until the people's dream was realised.
It is learnt that most of the leaders including TDP T Forum leaders E Dayakar Rao and K Srihari, who was defeated in Station Ghanpur constituency, are said to have strongly advocated before Naidu that the first step to prove the party's sincerity on Telangana was to 'forward an official letter to the Centre on party's stand on T'.
After gaining confidence of the people, the party should take up its own struggle for separate state and counter TRS 'poaching tactics' against TDP. By the time the next general election would be held in 2014, the TDP would emerge as a strong 'Telangana party'.
The TDP chief has begun holding talks with his Seemandra leaders and is eliciting their views on the proposals and demands put forth by T leaders.
However, some Seemandhra leaders are of the opinion that the TDP had already taken a stand on Telangana in 2009 election and it should continue the same strategy in future.
Some of them informed Naidu that the question of the survival of the party would be at cross roads if the party did not clear the clouds over the sensitive issue.
Party sources said that as the by-election to 17 Assembly constituencies were around the corner, Naidu was of the opinion that it would be better to maintain status quo on Telangana issue until the by-polls were over.
After testing the waters in the 'do or die' election, a concrete decision on T issue would emerge in the party, some leaders said.
