Just one letter did Bhanu in
HYDERABAD: Malishetty Bhanu Kiran, the key accused in the Maddelacheruvu Suri murder case and who had been on the run for nearly 15 months, was done in by just a small slip of posting a letter to a friend with the help of which CID officials nabbed him at Zaheerabad in Medak district on Saturday.
Bhanu ran out of money after spending nearly Rs 4 lakh visiting several states ever since he went absconding after the murder that took place in the city.
After visiting Delhi, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, he wrote a one-page letter to a close friend, asking him to arrange some money for his daily expenses and for his visit to Andhra Pradesh from where he stayed away for so long.
According to additional director-general of police (CID) SV Ramana Murthy, Bhanu left the city after killing Suri on January 3, 2011, carrying Rs 4 lakh with him.
He went to Delhi and stayed at Sharma Lodge in Gurgaon for a few days. Then he visited other states. 'He continuously shifted his hideout from one place to another to escape arrest.
For some time he rented a house in Delhi for Rs 3,000 a month and later moved to Seon, a district head quarters in Madhya Pradesh. He obtained a ration card, driving licence and income tax PAN card in the name of Mahesh Kunjuman, son of Narayana Kunjuman,' the additional DGP said.
Anxious to know the happenings, Bhanu bought a portable TV and had Tata Sky DTH connection. He spent time mostly watching news about him. He also visited Internet centres and surfed online editions of Telugu newspapers. He made a collage of news clippings,' the CID official said.
'Once he ran away, Bhanu never visited Hyderabad again. When he was in Delhi, he made phone calls from a mobile number. Occasionally he got in touch with his close aides.
When he was moving in cities, he used to call up his family and friends from public telephone booths. He never stayed at a lodge for more than three days and frequently changed places and attire to disguise his identity,' Ramana Murthy said.
