Congress sees winning chance in five seats Hyderabad: The Congress party seems to have high hopes on five Assembly constituencies- Narasannapet, Narsapuram, Ramachandrapuram, Allagadda and Tirupati. The party leaders also claim that they would give a tough fight in Payakaraopet and Polavaram.
According to a source close to top party leadership, the main reason for that confidence was that they were depending on the caste equations coupled with the strengths and weaknesses of rival candidates.
Congress had a fair chance of winning the elections in those constituencies, the source said.
Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha MP Chiranjeevi, who is one of the key campaigners for Congress, said that he would shoulder the responsibility of getting party candidates win at Tirupati, Allagadda, Payakaraopet, Narsapuram and Ramachandrapuram.
These constituencies have a sizable chunk of Kapu votes which could be the deciding factor.
Congress is all set to field Thota Trimurtulu and Kothapalli Subbarayudu from Ramachandrapuram and Narasapuram (both of them were former functionaries of Praja Rajyam Party).
Payakaraopet had about 65,000 Kapu votes. Even in Tirupati, Balija votes may alter the result, party leaders said.
The TDP nominee Chadalavada Krishnamurthy though belongs to Balija community has a minus point of being a non-local. This would be advantageous for Congress, they said.
But a division in Balija votes may benefit YSRCP which was likely to field Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, who had lost the election to Chiranjeevi in 2009, analysts said.
Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao has reportedly put all the stakes at Narasannapet to see his brother Ramdas emerge victorious and Congress leaders are quite hopeful of winning this seat comfortably.
Senior leader and AICC secretary Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy has expressed the hope that veteran Gangula Pratapa Reddy would definitely outwit the challenge by Bhuma family at Allagadda.
'It is difficult to get the pulse of Allagadda voters as they don't prefer single candidate continuously,' said another PCC leader.
