TJAC's very existence under threat

Hyderabad: The very existence of TJAC has become doubtful with its two main constituents TRS and BJP pulling it in different directions.

The TRS wants to send the BJP out of the joint action committee which has been spearheading the Telangana Movement after branding it as a communal party.

If the BJP is necked out, it will help the TRS have unrivalled domination of the TJAC and consolidate the Telangana vote in its favour. By expelling the BJP as some kind of a 'pariah' the TRS hopes that the entire Telagnana vote will fall in its kitty. Then there will be no need for it to share the pie with the BJP.

Aware of TRS' game plan, the BJP is working hard to spread its roots wide and deep in the region to become a force to reckon with, and is leveraging heavily on its national party's image and its commitment to the Telangana cause.

Interestingly, there have been differences of late between TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and TJAC chairman M.Kodandaram. TRS leaders allege that the BJP had won the Mahbubnagar Assembly seat in the recent byelection with the support of TJAC though Kodandaram had publicly stated that he would maintain equi distance from the two parties.

The TRS, in spite of its chief's disenchantment with Kodandaram, does not want to lose Kodandaram but keep him in the seat as chairman of TJAC so that when the BJP is pushed out it could have total control over the conglomerate.

With the Parkal byelection round the corner, the TRS wants to execute its plan to expel the BJP out of TJAC and thus gain electoral advantage in the byelection which the BJP is also fighting.

The TRS is worried about the growing strength of the BJP and wants to clip the saffron party's wings so that it could not pose a threat to its own existence.

Firing the first salvo, TRS legislature party leader E Rajendar asked the TJAC leadership to review the BJP's role in the Telangana movement.

He said the BJP's real face was exposed in the Mahbubnagar byelection which the party had described as India-Pakistan match. He accused the BJP of insulting the Muslims by saying that if the Muslim candidate won the election, it would lead to return of the Razakar rule.

He asserts that TJAC is a creation of TRS and therefore it is the TRS which owns it. In fact it was at the instance of the TRS that Kodandaram was made TJAC chairman, he said.

Wanting to play its cards carefully, the BJP is ready to face the TRS but wants to remain in the TJAC to derive political benefit. It plans to take the help of other Telangana organisations to check the growing clout of the TRS with TJAC.

'A section of Kodandaram supporters agrees with BJP's argument,' a TRS leader said. As for the TJAC chairman, he is still on the horns of a dilemma on what to do and what not to.

He alleges that some Seemandhra leaders are trying to dilute the Telangana movement by driving a wedge between the major partners of TJAC but asserts that all Telangana forces are united and are working under the banner of JAC. In the coming few days, Kodandaram says, he will convene a special meeting to thrash out contentious issues.
