Azad unhappy over Kiran's choice in Tirupati
New Delhi: AICC General Secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had differed on the choice of candidate for Tirupati Assembly constituency.
According to sources, Azad was not happy with Kiran Reddy's choice of M Venkataramana for the Tirupati Assembly seat, as there were adverse reports received by the Congress High Command of land-grab charges. Kiran Reddy is understood to have pushed for the candidature of Venkataramana.
The Congress High Command is keen on winning back the Tirupati Assembly seat, which fell vacant, following the resignation of Chiranjeevi, the sitting MLA, in the wake of his elevation to the Rajya Sabha.
The contest in Tirupati Assembly constituency is unlike the other Assembly by-elections, which were caused by the sitting Congress MLAs joining the YSRCP of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
Since it is a seat vacated by Chiranjeevi, the Congress has set its sights on retaining the seat.
Interestingly, Minister Galla Aruna Kumari's son Galla Jayadev was in the race for the Congress ticket to the Tirupati Assembly. But the Chief Minister has been pushing for the candidature of M Venkataramana.
