No new professional colleges from 2014
Hyderabad: Following a written request from the state government to the Union ministry of human resources, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has decided not to give approvals to any new professional college or for additional seats in AP from the year of 2014-15.
In a letter, the government had requested to the Union HRD ministry and AICTE that no approvals be given to any new professional colleges in AP as a huge number of seats had remained vacant in various courses including one and half lakh in engineering, 40,000 in MCA and 50,000 in MBA streams after final phase counselling last year.
The representatives of professional engineering colleges in the rural areas also met chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, urging him to write to the AICTE that no permission be given to any new colleges or additional seats.
The colleges in rural areas were the main sufferers as most of the candidates prefer to take admissions into colleges in urban areas, they said.
AICTE director and regional officer, AK Gangal told that they would not give approvals to new colleges unless the state government specially requests for it. There was a criticism that the state government and AICTE lacks co-ordination in establishing the new colleges.
