Kiran, Naidu battle to get a hold on home turf Hyderabad: The by-election for the Tirupathi assembly constituency has become a prestigious issue for both the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu. They are vying with each other to prove that the temple town is the bastion of their respective parties.
As the Tirupathi constituency falls under the home district of the two leaders- Chittoor, they were straining every nerve to counter political strategies adopted by each other and also to check YSR Congress party.
While the Chief Minister has been relying upon his welfare and developmental programmes ' Rs-one-per-Kg rice scheme and interest free loans to farmers and Self Help Groups to convince the voters, the opposition leader Naidu has been claiming that it was TDP government which protected the sanctity of the temple town and also took up the development works of the country's biggest pilgrimage centre.
To counter the government's campaign, TDP gave party ticket to Chadalawada Krishnamurthy, who belongs to Balija community which had been maintaining distance from TDP for not giving priority to the particular BCs in the allocation of party tickets in Naidu's home district since decades.
TDP leaders said the only stumbling block before the party was to prevent the exodus of leaders and workers to other political parties.
