Vijayamma to use YSR's ratham

HYDERABAD: Vijayamma, who ended her fast on Monday evening, said she would continue the unfinished work of her son Jagan Mohan Reddy, by campaigning for YSRC candidates for June 12 byelections.

Vijayamma, who broke down after the CBI court sent Jagan Mohan Reddy to Chenchalguda prison, said she would explain to people what her son has got in return for what her late husband had done for the Congress.

'I am sure Jagan babu will come out unscathed,' she said, fighting tears, at her fast camp. 'I am going to the people since they are the ultimate judges in a democracy. They (Congress) sent him to jail since they wanted him out of the way till the byelections are over,' she said, adding there was a responsibility on her to ensure re-election of those who had supported the no confidence motion against the Congress government.

Vijayamma will spend a day at Pulivendula on Tuesday and then she would begin campaigning from Narasannapeta in Srikakulam district on May 30.

The same day, she will address election rallies in Payakaraopet in Visakhapatnam district and will tour the same constituency the following day too (May 31).

Then, she will visit Ramachandrapuram in East Godavari district. She will tour Narasapuram on June 1, Polavaram on June 2 and Prathipadu in Guntur district on June 3, according to the schedule of her first phase of campaigning, released by YSRC leader Talasila Raghuram.

Earlier in the day, the YSR Congress Party central governing council met and urged Vijayamma to lead the party in the absence of her son, who is now in jail.

According to party sources, Vijayamma, after paying homage to her husband at his samadhi, will leave for Narasannapeta on May 30. Party leaders are busy making elaborate arrangements for Vijayamma's election campaign and preparing the campaign vehicle used by YSR in the past.

YSRC leader and governing council member B Shobha Nagireddy said people are with Jagan Mohan Reddy and their support for him will be reflected in the mandate they are going to give. 'Congress and TDP candidates would lose deposits,' she said, adding, 'Vijayamma will create a political tsunami.'
