North Andhra cool to Jagan's arrest Visakhapatnam: Kadapa MP and president of YSR CongressParty president YS Jaganmohan Reddy's arrest and subsequent judicial custody will have little impact on the two constituencies of Narasannapeta (Srikakulam) and Payakaropeta (Visakhapatnam) in north coastal Andhra.
In fact the YSR Congress appears to be trailing in these two assembly segments. Telugu Desam Party hoping only on Payakaropeta where its candidate Chengala Venkata Rao is ahead of Golla Babu Rao of YSR Congress and Gantela Sumana of Congress.
`The issue is different here. More than the arrest of Jagan and corruption in the Congress, the local people are worried over their own existence. The multi-national pharmaceutical company Hetero Drugs causing pollution and government's proposals to acquire thousands of acres on the coast for petroleum complex is worrying them more,' said Chengala Venkata Rao.
He said the daily wage earners and farm labourers are least concerned with the day to day affairs of the State politics. But the YSRCP candidate and sitting MLA Golla Babu Rao is confident that the arrest of Jagan has generated more sympathy for the party and could vote for him.
`The entry of Vijayamma and Jagan's wife Bharathi into campaigning will change the electoral situation in the constituency,' Babu Rao said.
Congress candidate Gantela Sumana said the Congress would win the elections whether Jagan arrested or not. She too said the arrest would have little impact on the constituency since most of the voters are from the backward classes and poor.
Their livelihood and improvement of quality in life and government schemes takes the priority than the arrests of top leaders.
Leaders of fisher folk community and representatives of Rythu Coolie Sangham said they were concerned with the subsidies, loans and other welfare schemes and their implementation.
The arrest did not evoke much enthusiasm in the four mandals. No signficant rally was also taken during the last two days.
Babu Rao also did not take out a rally. He was at home till evening on Monday when the party leaders gave a bandh call.
However, in Narasannapeta Jagan's arrest improved the position. Several people were arrested on Monday in response to the bandh call.
Dharmana Krishnadas, sitting MLA, is confident that the Jagan's arrest had consolidated his position.
Even observers say that the people were perturbed over the arrest which they said was untimely.
The political awareness has increased in the district and farmers, daily wage earners and women felt the CBI could have arrested Jagan after the elections.
