Heading for another round of by-polls? Hyderabad: The political developments that have been taking place for the past one week, project yet another round of by-elections in the State.
With every passing day the number of legislators switching over to the YSR Congress is increasing making it a must for the State to experience a final round of by-polls late this year or early 2013.
It was the Bobbili legislator, Sujaya Krishna Ranga Rao, who had switched over his loyalties to the YSR Congress defying the ruling Congress.
Though several leaders from the ruling Congress have tried to stop him from leaving the party, the legislator was unrelenting and had quit his MLA post.
It is said that another legislator from Vizianagaram district, S Jayamani of Parvathipuram, is also set to follow suit and she had already met Ranga Rao on Thursday.
The Eluru legislator, Alla Nani, met the YSR Congress chief, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on May 25 and was seen with him during the three-day questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The Congress leaders have tried in vain to get Nani back to its fold. The party also thought of slapping a show cause notice on the legisaltor but before that Nani had dashed off his resignation letter and is going with the YSR Congress.
On Thursday, when Y S Vijayamma, entered the East Godavari district for her campaign, the Kakinada legislator, Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy, met her and declared that he would go with the YSR family.
He said he would hold a meeting of his supporters in the next couple of days and submit his resignation. Like Ranga Rao, Nani and Chandrasekhar Reddy, there are many other legislators in the Congress waiting for the right time to jump.
It is said that a couple of legislators from Krishna district and an equal number of legislators from Guntur district are expected to switch over to the YSR Congress as Vijayamma enters Guntur district for electioneering.
Meanwhile, Telugu Desam legislator from Krishna district, Chinnam Ramakotaiah of Nuzvid, announced that he would not contest on the Telugu Desam ticket in the next elections.
Though he is yet to make his mind clear, it is believed that he is looking at the YSR Congress and is likely to announce it soon.
There are other names from the Telugu Desam like Gudivada MLA Kodali Nani and Kaikaluru MLA Jayamangalam Venkata Ramana, who have also made up their mind to join the YSR Congress.
It only take a couple of weeks for them to come out and rally behind Jaganmohan Reddy.
With the number of legislators resigning and joining the YSR Congress is likely to increase, the by-elections are a must as there is more than a year term left for the present Assembly. It is to be seen how many MLAs would quit their parties and join the YSR Congress.
