Women leaders add spice to campaign HYDERABAD: Addressing roadside meetings under the scorching sun left their fair skin tanned. Their faces became pale as they are relentlessly taking part in the poll campaign trail. The lengthy speeches delivered by them made their throats sore.
Against all these odds women leaders were outdoing their male counterparts in the campaign trail for the bypolls. Mahila nethas were sweating it out for the victory of the candidates of their respective parties.
All the major political parties in the state were banking on the services of women leaders in the poll campaign for victory.
Among the host of woman campaigners, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's mother Vijayamma and sister Sharmila stand out. They have been taking up whirlwind visits in support of the YSRCP candidates in the bypoll-bound constituencies in place of Jagan for the past few days.
Though Vijayamma and Sharmila were new to campaign trail, they are trying to win the hearts of people by raking up the issue of untimely death of YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
Not to be left behind, the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party also roped in women campaigners in support of their respective parties.
Most prominent among them are Union minister D Purandeswari and AICC spokesperson Renuka Choudary.
'Firebrand' Renuka Choudary has already completed her first leg of campaign trail by touring Nellore Lok Sabha and Ongole Assembly segments.
During her electioneering she wondered how Vijayamma was striding on to streets as a mother of a corrupt son. Renuka alleged that Vijayamma has behaved like Gandhari, who voluntarily blindfolded herself to the misdeeds of Jagan.
On the other hand Purandeswari who canvassed in Kadapa and East Godavari districts on Saturday and Sunday, took potshots at Jagan by calling him a 'betrayer', who bit the hand that fed him.
She lambasted the YSR Congress chief saying that he would have to take up Odarpu yatra for the rest of his life to comfort the families of those who were jailed because of his deeds.
Mines minister Galla Aruna Kumari toured several streets in Tirupati in support of Congress candidate M Venkata Ramana.
Even PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana's wife and MP Jhansi Laskhmi is also on a whirlwind tour across north Andhra in support of Congress candidates.
Yesteryear's queen of Telugu tinsel town Vanisri also took to streets in support of T Subbirami Reddy, Nellore Lok Sabha Congress candidate.
Another actor and YSRCP leader Roja is also sweating it out for the victory of party candidate Bhumana Karunakar Reddy. Another film actress and TDP leader Kavitha is campaigning in Guntur district in support of TDP candidates for the past few days.
Paritala Sunita, TDP legislator, is also playing a key role to counter Vijayamma. Not to be fall behind in the race, yesteryear's actor and TRS MP Vijayashanti is busy crisscrossing Parkal segment where the TRS and the BJP are at loggerheads.
