T leaders evince interest in Jagan's party HYDERABAD: After the impressive performance of YSR Congress in Parkal Assembly byelection (It lost the seat to TRS narrowly), Telangana leaders were showing interest in the party but want Jagan Mohan Reddy to come out with clarity on Telangana issue.
Late YSR's admirers in Telangana want to hear more from Jagan Mohan Redddy rather than merely repeating that he had no power to stop Telangana if the Centre decides to deliver it.
The leaders who are showing interest in Jagan's party belong to TRS, TDP and the Congress. Already TDP and the Congress leaders were stepping up heat on their respective parties for a clear stand on Telangana and now YSR Congress is no exception though it has not yet made any all out foray into the region except fighting the Parkal bypoll.
YSRC leadership during its poll campaign, did not mention anything about the state bifurcation issue. In fact it asked its leaders in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema not to make any demand for keeping the state united lest it would have an impact on Parkal.
On the other hand in an attempt to brand Jagan as a separatist, Congress leaders had campaigned that if one voted for Jagan, it would mean bifurcation of the state.
The YSRC leaders, surprisingly, did not dispute it. While campaigning in Parkal constituency, YSRC honorary president YS Vijayalakshmi paid rich tributes to Telangana martyrs. She said Jagan had respect for Telangana sentiment.
Probably this was one reason why Konda Surekha came very close to winning the seat but lost narrowly by 1,500 votes to TRS.
YSRC leaders from Telangana region believe that after the recent byelections, the party has already emerged as an alternative political force in Telangana region. Any more clarity on Telangana state, it would give the TRS jitters.
Sources said, Congress and a few TRS leaders were waiting with a bated breath for an announcement from the YSRC on Telangana issue. If Jagan dares to make a clear statement on Telangana, it might attract leaders from other political parties in the region, one Congress leader said.
