YSR Congress set eyes on local body polls Hyderabad: Following its resounding victory in the just-concluded by-elections, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) is now looking to consolidate its strength across the State.
The elections to local bodies, which are due, will come as handy for it in proving its widespread following in the electorate, the party leaders feel.
The party leaders, enthused by the latest success at the hustings, are bracing up for any kind of elections that the State may witness before the general elections in 2014.
The party has now thrown a gauntlet at the ruling Congress Party to conduct elections to the local bodies. The party top brass is huddled in the State capital on chalking out strategy for the future elections.
Though their leader is in the jail, they are leaving no stone unturned in prospecting any favourable chances for the party to make inroads into the base of opposition parties.
Jaganmohan Reddy is being constantly apprise of the party activities and is giving suggestions from time to time on the way ahead.
The main contention of the party has been that the Congress Government has thrown public welfare to the wind and is grossly misusing the official machinery to subvert the chances of rivals, mainly YSRCP.
At the same time, the YSRCP leaders stepping up their offensive on the major opposition party, claiming its chief Chandrababu Naidu is dithering on effectively exposing the failures and misdeeds of the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government.
Their strategy appears to be dethroning the TDP as the alternative to the Congress Party in the State, said YSRCP Political Affairs Committee Chairman and Former Minister Konatala Ramakrishna.
Ramakrishna said that the party was devising ways to utilise the expertise of various leaders by forming different committees to strengthen the party at all levels. He said that the party would fight the government on all fronts and on all public issues.
Its members in the Assembly would simultaneously represent the local issues and point out the failures of the government in each area of its functioning.
