YSR schemes to get new names HYDERABAD: Stung by criticism from some legislators and senior leaders that their opinions were not sought over the electoral debacle of the Congress in the bypolls, the ministerial committee, which is looking into the party's poor electoral show, has decided to collect the opinions of party MPs on July 17, and MLAs and MLCs on July 18.
As per the revised schedule, the committee will submit its interim report to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana on July 21.
The committee met under the chairmanship of Dharmana Prasada Rao at the residence of Pithani Satyanarayana at Himayatnagar here on Sunday.
As some leaders Ponnam Prabhakar (MP), and Paladagu Venkata Rao and K Yadav Reddy (MLCs) expressed their dissatisfaction over the functioning of the ministerial committee, it decided to elicit the viewpoints of all the lawmakers of the party over the bypoll debacle before finalising the report.
'We have decided to hold discussions with party MPs, MLAs and MLCs on July 17 and 18 so as to take their views. After giving final touches to the report on July 19, we will submit it to the party leadership on July 21 instead of on July 16,' said minister Pithani Satyanarayana told reporters after the meeting.
The committee felt the need to change the names of many welfare schemes which are being seen by people as the ones designed by YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
'A best example of this is the tuition fee reimbursement scheme. The YSR regime had allocated only Rs 750 crore every year for the scheme but now we are spending a whopping Rs 4,000 crore on it. Yet, the beneficiaries and vast sections of people are giving credit only to Rajasekhara Reddy,' said a minister who participated in the meeting.
He said the committee would recommend to the chief minister that various welfare schemes introduced by YSR be renamed so as to deal with the people's misconceptions over welfare schemes.
Taking a cue from chief minister's Indiramma Bata, ministers and MLAs should also take up mass-contact programmes to build the image of the government and the party, the committee felt.
