Parthasarathy case shocks Congress The Enforcement Directorate's case on the Minister for Secondary Education, K Parthasarathy, had shocked the rank and file of the ruling Congress in Krishna district.
Though the case is related to his private business activities when he was not in active politics, the party ranks here feel that the case and the two months jail term awarded by the court has brought down the image of the party in the district. The Congress leaders are unable to digest this development.
The Minister, who represents the dominant Yadava community in the district, having a strong base in Vuyyuru area of the district, has no following in the district.
A two-time legislator and first time Minister, Sarathy could not establish his support base in the district and the party cadre only rally for him only as a Minister and not on his personal capacity of a BC leader.
It is widely accepted that he could not associate himself with any of the BC leaders in the district and at the same time had failed to win the support of other caste cadre.
The Opposition Telugu Desam and the YSR Congress parties are up in arms against the Minister seeking his resignation.
However, the Congress voice is not heard in support of the Minister, which only exposes his disassociation with the party cadre in the district.
However, the case had brought down the morale of the party leaders as Saradhi is the second Minister to be nailed by the court in the last couple of months, after former Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana was sent to jail.
Though the case in which Sarathy is nailed, which is not related to his political career, the Opposition is accusing him of misleading the election commission by not including the case in the affidavit, for which neither the Minister nor his supporters have an answer.
The Opposition is likely to target the Minister and the Congress in the days to come while the party cadre is set to remain silent having no answer to counter.
