Hopes dashed, TRS to revive stir

HYDERABAD: The TRS leadership, which has been claiming that it has received signals of a favourable decision on the separate Telangana issue from the Centre and an announcement will be made in just a couple of months, has now come to the opinion that the Congressled UPA government at the Centre might defer a decision till the 2014 general election.

Though Telangana leaders of the Congress are time and again saying that their high command will take a final call on the issue soon, the TRS leadership has come to think otherwise.

After closely watching the developments in Delhi, the pink party leadership has formed an opinion that the UPA government is not in a position to deliver on its promise.

According to the TRS leadership, if the Centre wants to make any announcement on Telangana, it will do so only just before the 2014 elections.

TRS leaders had all along been hopeful that after taking a policy decision on Telagnana, the Congress high command would convene a meeting with Seemandhra and Telangana MPs to announce a roadmap for formation of Telangana state by considering the Justice Srikrishna Committee's report.

They also thought that the Congress would change the chief minister and the PCC president in the meantime. The party leadership openly said that it received several signals from the Centre that an announcement on new state would be made by the end of September.

Accordingly, it planned its Politburo meetings at its headquarters, Telangana Bhavan, here for three days from August 24 to finalise a new action plan.

'The Congress proved our predications wrong and we have to postpone the Politburo meeting. We will wait and watch till September 15 for the Congress high command's strategy,' said a leader. The party may hold its brainstorming session in the last week of September or first week of October.

Party chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao has told party MLAs and other leaders to tour constituencies, take up public issues and expose the failures of the state government.

In preparation for the 2014 elections the party may launch agitations on local issues after Sankranti. If the government conducts local body elections, that will help the party take up normal political activities, a leader said.

'The one singular achievement in the history of the last 56 years of Telangana movement is the statement made by the Centre on December 9, 2009 on creation of Telangana state.

It was a major victory. All that was because of TRS' untiring efforts. Now the party will force the government to deliver on its statement by introducing a bill in Parliament,' the TRS chief told his party leaders.

'All Telangana organisations working for the common goal should back the TRS in its efforts,' he said.
