Naidu walks tight rope on T letter Hyderabad: The TDP's strategy on the contentious Telangana issue landed the party president N Chandrababu Naidu in fresh trouble. While Telangana leaders were on cloud nine, the leaders from two other regions opposed the party's decision to submit fresh letter to centre clarifying its stand on the bifurcation of state.
In the wake of revival of Rayalaseema state movement by TDP general secretary Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy, the party chief received flak from within the party on his decision on T.
While Telangana leaders were demanding Naidu to submit the letter to the Centre at the earliest, the Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra TDP leaders wanted Naidu to make clear whether TDP is supporting Rayalaseema struggle.
Party leaders said that Naidu decided to give letter to union government in support of separate Telangana state in the first week of September. The decision did not go well in the party as non-Telangana leaders strongly objected it.
Senior leader P Keshav, K Yerrannaidu , KE Krishnamurthy and B Gopalakrishna Reddy strongly objected Naidu's stand on Telangana at this juncture.
Sources said that 'the Rayalaseema and Andhra leaders told Naidu that the Rayalaseema movement opened Pandora's box in the party as well as in the state politics.
If the party did not clear its stand on T- state and R- state demands, TDP will lose its credibility. Party should achieve broad consensus within the party on this contentious issues.
Sources said 'Naidu is talking to some more leaders before issuing another letter to the Centre on Telangana issue so that there will not be second opinion or difference on the issue.
Majority of leaders wanted Naidu to put the T- issue in cold storage for some more time until the other political parties particularly Congress elicit its opinion on separate Rayalaseema demand.
In the meantime, the Telangana TDP leaders were mounting pressure on Naidu to prove his sincerity on T demand by submitting letter to Centre in a stipulated time.
Once the party submitted letter, it stands to regain its ground in the region which was considered as the TDP's bastion for the last 30 years. The Telangana TDP Forum was already holding series of meetings to draft the letter.
The drafted letter will be given to Naidu for final approval, Forum leaders said. Following the fresh political developments in the party, sources said that if Naidu failed to convince non- Telangana region leaders on his T stand, he will be forced to postpone the submission of letter to the Centre indefinitely or until he evolved consensus.
