'Byreddy' is a closed chapter in TDP: Naidu HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu reiterated his stand on statehood for Telangana and challenged the UPA government to convene an all-party meeting, if they are a responsible government.
He said the TDP will disclose its stance on state bifurcation in that meeting and would be sending only one representative to it, if convened.
The 62-year old TDP chief is gearing up for his 117-days Padayatra from Hindupur in Anantapur district from October 2, the Gandhi Jayanti. Interacting with mediapersons, he said the Congress came to power by utilising the Telangana issue in 2004 and 2009 elections and hence they only have to resolve it.
'The TDP has already expressed its views on Telangana and has not changed its earlier stance. It will not corner any other party, including YSRC, on the issue,' he said. He alleged that the Congress was adopting double standards on the issue to defame the TDP.
On the issue of Telangana TDP MLAs supporting the Telangana movement, the TDP chief said that one or two MLAs differing with party's stand does not create any negative impact on the party.
He suspected that other political parties' attractive offers might have lured some party leaders to rebel and oppose the party's stand. 'Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy is a closed chapter.
If one or two MLAs quit the party, it will not have any impact on the party,' he said.
Naidu added that after the 2014 elections, there is every possibility for emergence of a third alternative and TDP will be a part of it.
Naidu said that during his Padayatra, he would create awareness among the people regarding Congress governments' misdeeds and would collect representations from the people on their problems and send them to respective government departments for addressing them.
Meanwhile, the TDP leadership is not showing any interest in involving either NTR's or Naidu's family members in Mekosam Vasutna Padayatra.
