Sharmila keen to contest from Kadapa LS HYDERABAD: Is YS Rajasekhara Reddy's daughter Sharmila planning to take the political plunge by contesting from the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency in the 2014 general election?
Is she annoyed by the wish of her brother YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to allot the party ticket to their cousin Avinash Reddy? The ongoing developments in the YSRC give scope for these questions.
According to insiders in the YSRC, Jagan Mohan Reddy had earlier decided to field his cousin Avinash Reddy (son of YS Rajasekhara Reddy's brother Bhaskar Reddy)to the Lok Sabha from Kadapa. And he openly disclosed it to his party leaders several times.
At present, Jagan is representing Kadapa in the Lok Sabha. Assured by Jagan himself, Avinash, who walks and talks like the YSRC president, planned to undertake a month-long padayatra across the constituency from November 23.
He made all arrangements to launch his walkathon from Kalasapadu in Badvel segment and sent out invitations to his supporters in the party and SMSs to mediapersons.
All of a sudden, Avinash has been asked to put off his padayatra. The party leadership on Wednesday directed him not to proceed with his padayatra plan.
According to sources, the reason is that Sharmila, who is undertaking walkathon across the state, objected to Jagan's idea of fielding Avinash from Kadapa as she herself is eyeing the seat once held by her father and being held now by her brother.
Avinash Reddy is naturally very much disappointed and some elders in the family have tried to placate him.
When contacted Avinash, the young leader acknowledged that he had put off his padayatra till January. He, however, denied that Sharmila's pressure made him abandon the proposed walkathon.
'Jagan Anna asked us to undertake month-long padayatras in every constituency across the state in January to express our solidarity with Sharmilakka's walkathon. So I have postponed my padayatra,' he explained.
When asked what he would do if Sharmila laid claim to the Kadapa Lok Sabha ticket, Avinash said he would leave the seat for her if she wanted it.
'We will always give first priority to the members of YS Rajasekhara Reddy's family. If any member of YSR's family wants to contest any seat, we will support them whole-heartedly,' said Avinash Reddy.
