Injury helps Sharmila escape from T heat HYDERABAD: The knee injury seems to have come as a god-send for YSR Congress leader Sharmila. She sustained the injury while boarding an open-top bus in Rangareddy district recently to address a public meeting. Now she cannot continue her padayatra at least for three months.
The relief is on account of the fact that she does not have to face hostile crowds in the Telagnana region with the all-party meeting in Delhi on December looming nearer.
The pressure on her to declare her party's stance on Telangana would only increase had she continued with the march across Telangana.
Sharmila began her padayatra from Idupulapaya in Kadapa district on October 18 and has covered Kadapa, Anantapur, Kurnool and Mahbubnagar districts and was in Rangareddy when she broke her knee. She has covered 822 km in 57 days.
A section of YSR Congress Party leaders believes that now that Sharmila has taken a break, the party does not have to face any embarrassment on the Telangana front.
They feel that this is not the time to tour Telangana districts as it might lead to tensions in the region.
After the all-party meeting in Delhi, the situation might become conducive for the YSR Congress for any public interaction with people in Telangana because by then there would be some clarity on what stand each party had taken on theissue.
On the other hand, there is a section of leaders in YSR Cong who wished that Sharmila had not broken her knee. They think that Chandrababu Naidu who is touring Telangana districts might steal a march over YSR congress, taking advantage of Sharmila's absence.
They are now wishing that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy should get bail and resume the padayatra from where Sharmila had left.
YSR Congress leader Jitta Balakrishna Reddy told that Jagan Mohan Reddy had a specific stance on Telanagan issue and that though there might be two representatives from the party at the all-party meeting, they would voice only one opinion.
Incidentally, Balakrishna Reddy is a Telangana leader and it could be his wishful thinking.
