Dharmana fate hangs in balance Hyderabad: Is it the end of the road for the Roads and Buildings, Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao? The Governor, E S L Narasimhan, was understood to have sent back his file two days ago thus openly disagreeing with the cabinet decision to veto the CBI prosecution against him.
He has reportedly asked the government to examine it further with legal advice.
The party sources are of the view that Dharmana would opt out on his own if his case happened to be issue of confrontation between the Governor ESL Narasimhan and the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government.
He is in touch with the Chief Minister as well as the PCC president to decide his future course of action.
The PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana also called on the Chief Minister at the latter camp office and discussed the fate of their cabinet colleague in the day. The Home Minister, P Sabita Indra Reddy and a few other senior ministers also called on the Chief Minister in the day.
But the PCC chief firmly believed that it would no way be treated as end of the road for Dharmana. He did not reject the file of Dharmana, he said.
As I read from the newspapers, he had only asked the government to seek the opinion of legal experts once again.
It cannot be considered as a setback for the government. Replying to a query, he said the Cabinet had taken a decision not to accord permission for prosecuting Dharmana in response to the CBI request for permission from the government to prosecute him.
If the CBI thinks there was no need for government permission to prosecute him, why did the probe agency ask for it? It amounts to questioning its own stand, he felt.
The Chief Minister's detractors are however are out to launch a fresh offensive against the government taking advantage of the Governor's move.
The Governor, they felt, had in a way justified the stand of the Health Minister, D L Ravindra Reddy, who had voiced his dissent against the decision to protect Dharmana.
