T Congress MPs brainstorm over future action HYDERABAD: With no indications from the Congress high command that it would take a favourable decision on Telangana issue after the December 28 all-party meeting, Congress MPs from Telangana have intensified discussions among themselves on their future course of action.
Some of the MPs, who have already dropped enough hints that they may quit the party as per the wishes of the people of their region, are now contemplating either to float a 'Telangana front' or join the separatist TRS for their political survival. Some of them are also looking towards the fledgling YSRC.
Party MPs like Manda Jagannadham and Gutta Sukhender Reddy already went on record that they would have to consider the option of quitting the Congress, if their high command did not take a positive decision over Telangana after the all-party meeting.
After smelling about their high command's plans to announce a financial package and setting up a development council to Telangana, to settle the issue for time being, the seven MPs, who are vocal in demanding separate statehood -- G Vivekanand, Ponnam Prabhakar, Manda Jagnnadham, Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Madhu Yashki Goud, Sirisilla Rajaiah and Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy are now understood to be considering various options including quitting the party for their political survival.
These seven MPs are holding talks with the former Rajya Sabha member K Kesava Rao in this regard.
'We are racking our brains to chose one option out of the two. But, each option has some drawbacks. If we form a front, it will be difficult for us to get a common symbol during 2014 polls.
If we join the TRS, we are not sure whether the pink party boss will keep his promise of giving us his party ticket during elections,' said an MP.
When asked about MPs' plans to quit the Congress, Kesava Rao told that when Congress leadership did not keep its promise, the MPs would have to act as per the wishes of people of their region.
'People are losing confidence in our party with its dillydallying tactics. Our party can no longer dodge the issue,' Kesava Rao said.
'Time has come for the Congress to take a clear-cut decision in favour of Telangana. Else, the party will be completely rooted out from the region,' Vivekanand said.
