Naidu set to face testing times in Andhra HYDERABAD: TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu is all set to run into another testing situation over his stand on Telangana with his Vastunna Meekosam padayatra entering coastal Andhra on January 21.
The TDP chief started his yatra in Rayalaseema region on October 2 and, after entering Telangana, provided more clarity on the Telangana statehood issue. Naidu, who is now walking through Nalgonda district, will continue the yatra in coastal districts from January 21.
When Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde announces a decision on Telangana before January 28 as promised, Naidu will end up answering many questions both from his own partymen and the public.
Even before that, if he talks about Telangana, it will lead to a hot political discussion in coastal Andhra. On the other hand, if he avoids any mention of the contentious issue, is will only damage the party's credibility in Telangana region.
While the TDP leaders and cadre are working hard to make the yatra in coastal Andhra a success, a section within the party started reacting to Naidu's stand on the issue.
Taking part in a discussion on a TV channel, in-charge of Krishna district TDP unit Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary said that though the TDP had taken a decision in support of Telangana state, the Centre needed to settle the issue only by considering the opinions of the people of all the regions in the state.
Personally, he thought that state's bifurcation would create more problems, he said. Another party leader and MLA Paritala Sunita opined that if the state was divided it would harm the Rayalaseema region.
After the Union government announced its decision, she would discuss the developments with party leaders and then decide her future political course, she said. Many other TDP leaders expressed similar views.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal blamed Naidu for the present situation in the state.
