Jagan loyalists make U turn on resignations HYDERABAD: Following TDP's decision not to back the no-confidence motion, some loyalists of Jagan in the Congress seem to have changed their strategy at the behest of the YSRC leadership.
Some legislators of the Congress who submitted their resignation from the Assembly to join the YSR Congress are said to be approaching the speaker's office to take back their resignation.
Their thinking is that if their resignation is accepted before the no-trust motion is taken up for discussion, they will become ineligible for voting. Hence their wanting to withdraw their resignations now to themselves to vote for the motion.
Former minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy (Punganur), who resigned from the party as well as the Assembly, disclosed that he had decided to take back his resignation from the membership of the Assembly only to attend the House.
'Jagan Reddy has asked me to attend the Assembly session and vote in favour of no-trust motion. I have decided to take back my resignation and attend the session,' he said after meeting Jagan at the Chanchalguda prison here on Wednesday.
Ramachandra Reddy, a bete noire of Kiran Kumar Reddy in native Chittoor district, said he would soon join the YSRCP to be by Jagan's side at 'this hour of crisis'.
Meanwhile, though there seems no immediate threat to the survival of the government, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has decided not to take chances.
He and PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana have started formulating strategies to keep their flock together to defeat the motion and held a meeting with his cabinet colleagues on the Assembly premises. He entrusted asked in-charge ministers to ensure that MLAs attend the House and vote against the motion.
'The chief minister is keen on taking action against pro-Jagan MLAs as such an action will benefit the Congress by reducing the total strength of the Assembly and bringing down the majority needed for defeating the motion,' a close aide of Kiran Reddy said.
Botcha hinted at requesting the speaker for action against Congress rebels and said action would be taken in the next two days. Government chief whip Gandra Venkataramana Reddy also said his party would write a letter to the speaker to accept the resignations of Congress MLAs sailing with Jagan.
