Daughters of PV and Kavuri in the race for MLC seats Hyderabad: With the Assembly having gone on a recess for about one month, lobbying for MLC seats under Governor's quota has begun.
There are four seats to which Governor ESL Narasimhan will nominate persons from various walks of life like social work, education, art and culture etc.
It is said that those in the race for the four seats are Aldas Janaiah from Telangana, chairman of Andhra Pradesh Biodiversity Cell R Hampaiah, B Kamalakar of PCC intellectual cell, Bhamidipati Ramamurthy, S Vani Devi daughter of former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao, PCC vice president Madasu Gangadhar, Congress leader Bharati Dharavat, Dr B Srinagi, K Satyanaryana Raju and others.
Party sources said that Janaiah's name has been suggested by Revenue Minister N Raghuveera Reddy and Agriculture Minister K Lakshminarayana. Janaiah has been advising the State government on many agriculture related issues.
Kamalakar, who was selected for a two-year term earlier is trying for a full term. Union ministers Kishore Chandra Deo and Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy and Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao are said to be supporting him.
R Raghurami Reddy is said to be the choice of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. It is said that the front runners are Ramamurthy, S Vani, Dr Srinagi daughter of Eluru MP K S Rao and K Satyanarayana Raju
The Andhra Pradesh Leh-Buddhist organisation urged the Chief Minister to nominate a Buddhist to the Council as this was only section which had never been nominated to the Council. Organisation president D Ramudu urged the Chief Minister to nominate a Buddhist under Governor's quota.
