Mopidevi likely to join YSR Congress GUNTUR: If the acrimonious speech of Mopidevi Haranath Babu, brother of minister Mopidevi Ventaramana facing corruption charges, at the Guntur District Congress Committee meeting held on Sunday and the non-filling of the Repalle Assembly constituency coordinator post of the YSR Congress (YSRC) are any indication, the minister, in all likelihood, will quit the Congress.
Either Venkatramana himself or anyone of his family members may contest the coming Assembly elections on the YSRC ticket, sources said.
It may be worth mentioning here that YSRC had appointed coordinators for 16 of the 17 constituencies keeping the Repalle constituency, represented by Mopidevi Venkatramana, vacant.
Followers of Venkata Ramana, especially those from Nizamapatnam, Nagaram and Repalle rural mandals, are said to be angry with the Congress party for not making efforts to release their leader.
They are of the opinion that Venkata Ramana was made scapegoat by the Congress while Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao and others were enjoying the support of the party.
Haranath Babu wondered why the Congress party leaders and the government had not allowed CBI to arrest other ministers facing charges in the issuance of controversial GOs.
It is in this backdrop that keeping the Repalle coordinator post of the YSRC was giving rise to r speculations about Venkata Ramana's joining the party.
'If our leader is not released, we will decide the future course of action after consulting him,'' said Prasadam Vasudev, one of the key followers of Mopidevi's family and former MPP from Nizampatam.
