Politics turns family business these days HYDERABAD: It is 'family business' in politics these days. The TDP and YSRC which accuse the Congress of promoting hereditary politics, are in fact following the same path.
Family members of N Chandrababu Naidu and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy are competing with each other for prominent positions in their respective parties as the 2014 general elections approach.
They are also trying to contribute their bit to drum up peoples support for their parties in the run-up to 2014 polls.
With Naidu busy continuing his padayatra, wife Bhuvaneswari, son Lokesh and brother-in-law Balakrishna are trying to play more active roles in the day-to-day affairs of the TDP.
Lokesh is often taking up whirlwind tours in Kuppam Assembly constituency, represented by his father, to gear up party cadres.
The heir apparent in TDP is also playing the backroom boy's role in the party and reportedly taking key decisions now.Ever since Naidu undertook his walkathon, Bhuvaneswari started taking more interest in party matters.
Last week, she visited fasting TDP MLAs at the NIMs and offered them lemon juice to end their protest.
She signed a flexi board at NTR Trust Bhavan in Hyderabad on Saturday in expression of her support for the TDP's agitation against power tariff hike.
Meanwhile, Naidu's brother- in-law and film actor N Balakrishna too got into action. Of late, he is touring in coastal districts, particularly his native Krishna district, to counter the fledgling YSRC.
Balaiah is making no secret of his political ambitions. 'I will take the political plunge in the ensuing general elections by contesting for the Assembly. I am ready to serve the party.'
In YSRC, following the protracted imprisonment of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, his mother Vijayalakshmi, being the honorary president, is trying to lead the party.
She is taking up various protests against the government. Her daughter Sharmila has undertaken a padayatra to boost the morale of party cadres, who are worrying about the continued imprisonment of Jagan.
She kept attacking the Congress as well as the TDP with powerpacked dialogues. Jagan's wife Bharati is also being seen taking part in party activities.
The other day, she sat beside Vijayamma, during the latter's fast here, to express solidarity to her mother-in-law in her protest over the power crisis in the state.
