Where T Cong MPS are heading to? HYDERABAD: Where are the Telangana Congress MPs heading to? Amidst clear signals that Delhi is unlikely to act on the statehood issue anytime soon, Congress MPs from the region seem to be preparing a roadmap for themselves.
While Nagarkurnool MP Manda Jagannadham has already dropped enough hints of his destination, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), the equation in respect of others is becoming clearer now.
Information from various sources indicates that Dalit MPs from the region are looking towards the TRS, those belonging to the Reddy community are eyeing the YSR Congress while BCs are expected to sink or sail with the Congress.
Jagannadham apart, it is only a matter of time before two other Dalit MPs, G Vivek (Peddapalli) and S Rajaiah (Warangal), wear the pink kanduva. Vivek indicated as much Friday saying he will consider options if Delhi fails to deliver T State.
The two Reddys from Nalgonda, G Sukhender Reddy (Nalgonda) and K Rajagopal Reddy (Bhongir), may, in all likelihood, prefer the YSRC. Besides following the general trend of Reddys deserting the Congress and preferring Jagan Mohan Reddy's party, they also seem to believe that T sentiment is not as strong in Nalgonda as it is elsewhere in the region.
The two prominent T protagonists among BC MPs of the Congress, Ponnam Prabhakar (Karimnagar) and Madhu Yaskhi Goud (Nizamabad), are, however, unlikely to leave the party for more than one reason.
For both of them, securing a TRS ticket is a difficult proposition as TRS chief Chandrasekhar Rao's relative, B Vinod, is the obvious candidate from Karimnagar while Rao's daughter, Kavitha, is nursing ambitions of contesting from Nizamabad.
While Madhu Goud has often been strident in his attacks on the TRS and Chandrasekhar Rao in particular, Ponnam has thus far steered clear of criticising the separatist party. The TRS leadership reportedly sent feelers to Ponnam that it would accommodate him but the Congress MP has decided to stay with the party.
'Whatever I am today, it is because of the Congress. I will continue to fight for a T State while remaining within the party and hope that the people will recognise my effort,' Ponnam is said to have told a close aide.
Still young, Ponnam is also learnt to be looking at long-term prospects even if there is a temporary setback because of statehood sentiment and is said to be in the reckoning for AICC secretaryship.
Among other MPs, Malkajgiri MP Sarve Satyanarayana (BC) has recently been rewarded with a berth in the Union Cabinet and so was P Balram Naik (ST-Mahbubabad). S Jaipal Reddy is a senior minister while Anjan Kumar Yadav (Secunderabad) represents a constituency where pro-Telangana mood may not influence the outcome.
