Why Kavuri did make a U turn on T? HYDERABAD: Clarifying that earlier he had opposed bifurcation of the state in his capacity as Eluru MP, Union Textiles Minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao said being a Union Minister, he was leaving the issue to the Congress high command.
'Before becoming a Union Minister, I had expressed my personal opinion as Eluru MP. But now, being a Union minister, I state that I will abide by the decision of my party high command on the issue of state bifurcation,' said Kavuri.
Kavuri on Friday visited Hyderabad for the first time after assuming office. Soon after his arrival, the Congress veteran, who had vehemently opposed division of the state till the other day, said he would not come in the way of a Telangana state if the Congress high command decided to divide the state.
Making light of the disagreement on the issue of bifurcation of state among Congress leaders, he said, 'There would be differences between mother and daughter as well as father and son. Even siblings often quarrel on several issues.
However, when there is a difference of opinion among members of a family, they should sit and resolve their disagreement. How long do they quarrel among themselves? The same thing is applicable to the issue of Telangana also.'
The Eluru MP turned philosophical and further remarked, 'Life itself is full of compromises. Every day we compromise on several issues. Hence, one has to compromise on certain issues.'
The Union minister said he would abide by whatever decision the Congress high command took on the issue of Telangana. Even if the decision was for a T-state, he would abide by it, he added.
'I will not be able to think like a sarpanch after becoming a Union minister. We have left the issue of state bifurcation to our party high command. Our leaders in Delhi, who are bigger than me, are very seriously finding a solution. Whatever decision they take, I will abide by it,' said Kavuri.
Asked why he had resigned as permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC), Kavuri said after taking charge as Union minister, he had realised the magnitude of the work that needs to be taken care of for the welfare of weavers and hence, thought it would not be possible for him to do justice as CWC member.
