Ongole/Vizag touted to be New capital Hyderabad: The decision to bifurcate the state will now lead to focus on deciding where to have the capital city of Seemandhra.
Though the Centre has given a cushion of ten years for developing a new capital, speculations are rife about the possible small town which could rise to become the new capital since Hyderabad will be the permanent capital of Telangana.
Options talked about are Ongole in Prakasam and Visakhapatnam. The leaders from Rayalaseema are demanding that the capital be located at Kurnool since it was they who had sacrificed the capital at the time of merger of Telangana. The people from coastal Andhra want the capital in other places like Vijayawada and Guntur.
According to sources, Ongole would be more suitable since lot of government land was available in that part. Thousands of acres of land would be required to build the necessary infrastructure of the capital. The land prices here are much less compared to places like Visakhapatnam or Tirupati.
Moreover location-wise, they may not be very convenient from administrative point of view. Its proximity to the coastline is also an added advantage.
Infrastructure -wise Visakhapatnam is next to Hyderabad and it is a emerging as another hub of opportunities. The cosmopolitan character of the city is an added advantage.
Different lobbies have been quite active campaigning in favour of either Vijayawada or Guntur as the capital for the new state. Both the places are centrally located and strategically important. Realtors have already made their fortune projecting both the cities as the likely capital for Seemandhra.
