All eyes on TRS merger with Congress The Telangana Rashtra Samithi's 13-year-old dream of separate statehood seemed to have taken a giant leap with UPA allies and CWC giving their nod for the formation of Telangana.
Statements, on a daily basis from Congress top brass, about expediting the Telangana process within six months, have raised hopes among the four crore population of the region.
Although Telangana community is convinced to some extent, full scale celebrations have been put on hold until the separate state bill gets the approval in the Parliament.
Now the talk in political circles, at least in Telangana region, is that whether TRS would merge with Congress? Or will it keep away from it. TRS chief and other leaders of the party were posed with questions on this subject a number of times for the last few days.
However, past experience in state politics does not augur well for TRS. Prajarajyam Party, formed by actor-turned-politician K Chiranjeevi, merged with Congress on February 6, 2011 hoping good returns in their favour.
However, the party leaders including Chiranjeevi were ignored for a good eight months, before they were rewarded with posts.
Congress high command was in regular touch with Chiranjeevi until merger, and as soon as the process was completed, they went `out of coverage' area.
It was the turn of the erstwhile PRP camp to make several trips to New Delhi until they were accommodated in Central and State cabinets.
Now the question is, Will the TRS be treated the same way? Or how will TRS chief approach when the Congress reaches out to him would be an eagerly looked subject in the coming months.
