Cong identifies four cities for new capital New Delhi: The Congress high command is said to be evolving a new formula to ensure that the ongoing agitation in the Seemandhra region subsides. It is likely to suggest names of a few places as the capital city of the state of Andhra Pradesh, according to a senior Congress leader from Telangana region.
Acknowledging that there has been no let-up in the agitation in that region, he said the high command too had taken note of it and was working out a strategy to see that situation returned to normal.
He said one of the proposals under consideration is to suggest two or three places where the new capital could be located. This would happen soon after the cabinet note was approved. Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur and Ongole could be the names, the source said.
It may be mentioned here that the AICC incharge of state affairs, Digvijay Singh, had reiterated on Thursday that the cabinet note was getting ready and would come up before the Cabinet during the first week of October.
If that happens, then the debate would turn towards the capital city and the agitation would start subsiding, he said.
Even the former PCC president D Srinivas indicated that high command was in the process of finalizing an action plan to placate the feelings of the people of Seemandhra region and will be addressing their concerns soon so that the process can be taken forward.
Srinivas who turned 66 on Friday talking to a select group of reporters said, 'I don't know whether one more ball is still remaining or not, but the scoreboard clearly shows that Telangana has won the match. Seemandhra can't cross Telangana's total, he said.
To a query, Srinivas said that he was confident that even the BJP would not stall the T process. They had already made their stance clear.
In fact, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had taken the BJP leader Sushma Swaraj into confidence while announcing the Congress Working Committee's decision to accord statehood to Telangana, he said.
